What I Wish I Knew Before My First Disney Cruise
A First-Timer’s Guide to Disney Cruise Line

Disney cruises are hands down one of my favorite vacations to recommend—especially for busy families planning their first cruise. There are endless opportunities for meaningful family time, but the kids’ programs are so engaging that parents don’t feel guilty enjoying a little time to themselves, too.
That balance is what makes Disney Cruise Line so special. You get all the Disney magic you love, without the nonstop hustle and stimulation of the theme parks. There’s always something happening onboard—but if your idea of vacation is relaxing by the pool, reading on your verandah, or enjoying a quiet adults-only space, you can absolutely do that, too.
Why Disney Cruise Line Stands Out
Most people already know the big reasons Disney Cruise Line shines above other cruise lines:
No better kids’ programs at sea
Broadway-quality entertainment
Rotational dining that’s both flexible and stress-free
Family-friendly stateroom design with extra storage and split bathrooms
Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay
But here’s the thing I didn’t fully understand before my first sailing…
What First-Time Disney Cruisers Don’t Always Realize
Whether you’re a complete cruise newbie, sailing for the first time with kids, or even someone who regularly cruises with another line, Disney Cruise Line works differently in some important ways.
And while those differences are part of what makes it so magical, they can also catch first-time sailors off guard if they don’t know what to expect.
I’m a planner by nature. I researched extensively before my first Disney cruise—and even then, there were still several things I wished I had known before stepping onboard. Little details that would have saved time, reduced stress, or helped me get even more value out of the experience.
That’s exactly why I’m sharing this series.
What This Series Will Cover
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing my top Disney Cruise Line tips—organized into easy-to-read lists of five—to help first-time sailors feel confident, prepared, and excited instead of overwhelmed.
We’ll cover topics like:
What to know before you book
What to do (and not do) before embarkation day
How onboard life really works
Tips for cruising with kids—and without them
How to get the most magic out of your sailing
My goal is simple: to help you board your first Disney cruise feeling like you already know the ropes.
Happy planning—and stay tuned!
