Where to Stay at Disney World with a Family of 5

Growing up in a family of five, a Disney vacation in the ‘90s / early 2000s usually meant one thing: booking two connecting rooms or staying off property. At the time, there were not many options for larger families to stay together comfortably in one room.
Thankfully, that is no longer the case. Today, Walt Disney World offers a wide variety of accommodations specifically designed for families of five and larger. From spacious Family Suites and convenient 5th Sleeper rooms to deluxe accommodations and villas, there are options available at nearly every price point. Disney does not offer rollaway beds, but with so many thoughtfully designed room types across the property, there is no need. Families can enjoy the convenience of staying together in one room without sacrificing comfort or space.
Here are just a few of the room types I recommend to my clients traveling as families of five or more (or smaller families / groups that appreciate more space!).
Family Suites
Family Suites are the most spacious non-villa options at a value resort level. These suites are ideal for families who want extra room to spread out, multiple bedding options, and extra amenities at their fingertips. Family Suites are available at Disney's Art of Animation Resort and Disney's All-Star Music Resort.
My recent stay at the Cars Family Suite at Art of Animation was one of my favorites! This suite can sleep up to six guests and includes a private bedroom, separate living room (with both a pull-down table bed and a sleeper sofa), kitchenette, and two full bathrooms. Two full bathrooms makes getting everyone ready for the park day and winding down before bedtime a breeze! They are a favorite for families who appreciate additional privacy and space. And with the resort located right on the Skyliner, the additional transportation is an added bonus.
5th Sleeper Rooms
Moderate resorts such as Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside offer standard rooms with two queen beds plus a child-sized pull-down bed. These rooms are a fantastic value for families with at least one younger child, offering enough sleeping space while keeping costs lower than a suite. Both of these room types at these resorts were recently refurbished too!
Beach Club Deluxe Room
At Disney's Beach Club Resort, Deluxe Rooms are larger than standard rooms and feature two queen beds and a queen-size sleeper sofa, sleeping up to six guests. These rooms provide extra square footage and access to the very popular Stormalong Bay pool complex. Overall, Disney’s Beach Club is one of my most recommended and booked resorts for the spacious accommodations, one-of-a-kind pool, extra amenities and the ease of walking to two parks being located on the Disney Boardwalk in addition to multiple transportation options.
Multi-Bedroom Villas
Disney’s Villas at Deluxe Resorts offer the most flexibility for larger families. Deluxe Studios at many resorts sleep five and include a kitchenette, while One-, Two-, and Three-Bedroom Villas provide separate bedrooms, full kitchens, living and dining areas, and washer/dryers. Some villas can sleep up to 12 guests! Popular villa resorts for families include Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge with views of the Savanna just to name a few. These accommodations are perfect for families who want the convenience of home-like amenities during their vacation.
