Walt Disney World 101: Benefits of Staying on Property

One of the first decisions you’ll make when planning a Walt Disney World vacation is where to stay. Orlando offers a wide variety of accommodations to fit every family and travel style, which can make staying off property tempting. However, choosing a Disney Resort hotel comes with some wonderful perks that add convenience, extra time, and a little more magic to your vacation.
Let’s explore some of the benefits of staying right in the magic!
Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours
This is one of my favorite perks! Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels can enjoy 30 minutes of early entry into the theme parks every day of their stay, including check-in and check-out days. That extra time can give you a head start on select attractions before the parks open to all guests, helping you make the most of your park day.
Guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resort hotels, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, and select other hotels can also enjoy extended evening hours on select nights in select theme parks. It’s another wonderful opportunity to experience select attractions after regular park hours. Check the Walt Disney World calendar or the My Disney Experience app for the current schedule.
Earlier Access to Dining Reservations
When it comes to securing those must-do dining experiences, a little advance planning can go a long way!
Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels can make dining reservations 60 days before their arrival for the length of their stay, up to 10 nights. This added booking advantage can be especially helpful when you have your heart set on popular restaurants, character dining experiences, or other memorable meals.
Not sure which restaurants deserve a spot on your must-do list? Your Wishes Family Travel advisor can offer personalized recommendations and help you navigate the reservation process so you can focus on the experiences that matter most to your family.
Earlier Access to Lightning Lane Passes
Want to spend less time waiting in line and more time enjoying your favorite attractions? Lightning Lane passes may be a helpful addition to your park plans.
Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels can purchase eligible Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days before the first day of their stay, while other guests generally have a 3-day advance purchase window, depending on their ticket type.
This earlier access gives eligible resort guests a valuable head start when planning their park days. Since popular attractions and return times can be limited, having a plan in place can make a difference. Your travel advisor can help you understand your options and decide what makes the most sense for your family's vacation.
Complimentary Transportation
Getting around Walt Disney World is part of the adventure! Disney offers complimentary transportation options, including buses, boats, the monorail, and the Disney Skyliner at select locations.
Depending on your resort and destination, you may even get to enjoy a scenic ride along the way. Best of all, you can spend less time worrying about traffic, navigating unfamiliar roads, or remembering where you parked your car—and more time enjoying your vacation.
Transportation options and travel times vary by resort and destination, so choosing the right home base can make a real difference in your overall experience.
Complimentary Resort and Theme Park Parking
Planning to drive to Walt Disney World? Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels receive complimentary standard overnight parking at their resort and complimentary standard parking at the Walt Disney World theme parks during their stay.
For families planning a longer vacation, these included parking benefits can mean meaningful savings and added convenience. If you're bringing your own vehicle, it's one more perk worth considering when comparing your resort options.
More Convenience, More Magic
Ultimately, staying at a Disney Resort hotel can mean more convenience, valuable perks, and more opportunities to enjoy the magic together. From getting a head start on your favorite attractions to making transportation and dining plans easier, these benefits can help make your Walt Disney World vacation feel a little more seamless.
Of course, every family is different! The best resort for your vacation depends on your travel style, priorities, and the experiences you want to enjoy.
