Universal’s New Star: The Helios Grand Hotel

Stepping into the lobby of Universal’s brand-new Helios Grand Hotel felt like I was stepping right into the heart of Epic. As part of Universal’s Epic Preview, I had the chance to explore and stay at this stunning new property that blends comfort with bold designs inspired by the sun god Helios himself.

First Impressions

From the moment I walked in, my eyes were immediately drawn to the floor-to-ceiling windows across the lobby framing Celestial Park. I barely even noticed the front desk! I couldn’t believe how close I was to the action: the thrilling Starburst Racers roller coaster zooming by, guests enjoying all the new sights and sounds, and the Celestial Park fountains alive with water jumping and sparkling. Guests walking in will truly feel like they are part of the theme park which makes for an exciting and memorable welcome that sets the perfect tone for the rest of the vacation.

Location, Dedicated Park Entrance, and Early Park Admission

I knew from my research and training before the trip that Helios was located inside Epic Universe, but I don’t think I fully appreciated what that meant until I arrived as I just mentioned. Guests staying here have exclusive access to a dedicated entrance into Epic Universe, providing direct and convenient access to the park. Not only do you have direct and easy access to the park, but you also get early access to the park! Early entry from Helios was by far the most effortless I’ve experienced in comparison to other theme park days. Security and ticket scanning happen right inside the hotel lobby in an air-conditioned space (you can’t beat this, especially in the summer!). Then, just steps from the lobby, you walk out, and you’re instantly immersed in Epic Universe. No long lines of crowds, no transportation, no stress. It’s incredibly convenient and makes rope-dropping the park feel like a luxury.

Accommodation

This hotel has standard guest rooms, club level amenities, and kids/family suites. Kids Suites are inspired by How to Train Your Dragon, giving families the illusion that they are staying in the Viking village of Berk. These suites offer families plenty of room to spread out with the included main bedroom featuring one king-sized bed, a kids room with two twin beds themed for How to Train Your Dragon, and a common area that has a sleeper sofa for additional sleeping space.

Dining

Like other Universal hotels, this resort offers sit-down, grab and go, and bar options. Located on the rooftop, Bar Helios offers a chic lounge experience with 360-degree panoramic views of Epic Universe. The views cannot be beat! The menu features small plates and handcrafted specialty cocktails. The ambiance is enhanced by a large star and constellation map displayed above the main bar area and a patio area for outdoor dining. We loved the views and vibes! My cocktail, the Mount Olypmus, was made with Hendrick's Gin, St Germain, lemon and lavender cordial, lime juice, mint, Ferrari Bru and it was delicious. The food was also good, but very expensive for the portions you get. I would treat myself to drinks and the views again but would grab dinner elsewhere. I did not have a chance to eat at Flora Taverna, but next time I will. This restaurant offers a breakfast buffet (which I think looks great), lunch, and dinner. Aurora Market is located just off of the lobby and is both a coffee shop and market offering freshly roasted coffees, a selection of grab-and-go food items, wine on tap, and a variety of snacks and desserts available all day. It's the perfect stop before heading into Universal Epic Universe through the hotel’s dedicated entrance for guests. This market was always busy, but the staff did a great job of keeping the line moving. My cold brew was delicious each morning, and just what I needed to start a full day in the parks. Lotus Lagoon is a casual bfaresnd grill located by the pool, serving standard poolside fare such as burgers, salads, sandwiches, and more. I did not stay here long enough to try any of the food, but again, it looked great so I would in the future. I did enjoy a cold beer here after a full day at Epic and it hit the spot! Room Service is an additional dining option also available at this resort.

Additional Amenities

There are plenty of places to sit and relax at this hotel, the gym is in a great location, and the outdoor patios for viewing Epic Universe are great, but to me, the standout amenity is definitely Lotus Lagoon. Lotus Lagoon is referred to as the resort's “oasis” with a zero-entry pool featuring underwater speakers, a poolside bar and grill, hot tubs, fountains, loungers, games, and 18 cabanas! These cabanas are available to rent if you want to add a level of luxury to your day! The poolside cabanas come with TVs, ceiling fans, extra seating, and complimentary fruit & beverage platters. Lotus Lagoon offers the perfect balance whether you’re refueling mid-park day or winding down with a cocktail like we did. It’s a standout spot that brings relaxation and a tropical feel to the overall Helios Grand Hotel experience.

Whether you’re dreaming of staying at the Helios Grand Hotel or you are curious which Universal resort is the best fit for your family, I’d love to help you plan your EPIC vacation from start to finish. I’ve experienced these resorts firsthand and can help match you with the perfect stay based on your style, budget, and park plans.
