Top 10 Reasons to Attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!

“Boo to You” from Walt Disney World! Fall is one of my favorite times to visit the theme parks, and I always make sure to include at least one night (sometimes two!) at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom in my travel itinerary. As someone who prefers festive over frightening, I love that this party delivers all the magic of Halloween without the scares. It’s the perfect way to soak up the season, join in the fun, and experience Disney in a spooktacular way.
1. Boo-to-You, the Exclusive Halloween parade!
This is one of Disney’s most popular parades and for good reason. It features exclusive music, beloved villains, and rare characters you won’t find anywhere else in the parks, all while bringing to life the movies and attractions we know and love. I especially like the waltzing ghosts from the dining room scene in Haunted Mansion and of course, the iconic gravediggers! But for me, the true highlight happens before the parade officially begins. The lights along the parade route dim, the music builds, and the crowd falls silent… then, out of the darkness, the legendary Headless Horseman rides down Main Street to kick off the show. It’s an unforgettable moment and not to be missed!
2. Event - Exclusive Fireworks Show!
Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular is hosted by Jack Skellington and can only be seen from the party. Grab a good spot on Main Street. U.S.A. to enjoy the fireworks and the projections!
3. Event – Exclusive Stage Show!
My favorite Disney stage show ever is the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, which runs multiple times throughout the party. I always catch the final performance of the night, when the energy is high and the even as the party is winding down because it feels like the perfect grand finale. Set against the backdrop of Cinderella Castle, the show follows the Sanderson Sisters as they return to conjure up a wicked good time. With the help of some of Disney’s most infamous villains like Hades, Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, Maleficent, Captain Hook, Lady Tremaine, and more, they brew up a spell filled with music, mischief, and plenty of flair only these three sisters could provide. My favorite moment is when the entire crowd joins Winifred in singing “I Put a Spell on You” at the end. It’s nostalgic, high-energy, and basically everything my 90s kid heart could ever want in a show!
4. Shorter Attraction Wait Times!
Parties are great for ride enthusiasts too! With a limited number of tickets sold and so many added forms of entertainment spread throughout the park, wait times at even the most popular attractions are at record lows. Ride your favorites over and over again without having to wait long or purchase Lightning Lanes!
5. Trick-or-Treating throughout the Magic Kingdom (all ages!)
This is fun for the whole family to enjoy. There are numerous trick-or-treat spots throughout the park starting as soon as you enter the party where each guest (adults and kids) will be able to pick up a treat bag for collecting candy if they did not bring one from home. If you have a family member with allergies, there are allergy-friendly options too!
6. Rare Character Meet-and-Greets (especially villains)!
Again, I love the way the villains are incorporated into this party. They are not just in the parades and shows, but they are also out and about for you to meet! Last year, my favorite meet and greet was with Lady Tremaine with the Evil Stepsisters! They gave each guest lots of time, took multiple photos, and provided a really fun interaction. Villains are also found on some of the Trick-or-Treat trails too! We found the Evil Queen standing in front of Snow White’s portrait and Maleficent standing in front of Princess Aurora’s portrait inside at the Princess Fairytale Hall.
7. Costumes!
So long as guests follow Disney’s Costume Guidelines, both adults and kids can dress up for the party. Some people wear festive shirts while others go all out. I love seeing everyone’s costumes throughout the evening. The people watching and creativity are always a 10/10.
8. Event-Exclusive Halloween-Themed Snacks and Treats!
Something I look forward to before any Disney event is the Foodie Guide they release in advance. I love seeing what festive snacks, desserts, and drinks will be available during the party. These are typically not available during normal theme park hours, and they are the perfect opportunity to try something new!
BONUS: As your preferred travel advisor, I will be sure you have a Foodie Guide in hand with suggestions prior to attending the event. And if you are on one of the Dining Plans, I will help you strategize best use of credits while at the event too!
9. Special Event-Exclusive Merch!
I love merch. I love merch even more when it is event exclusive. I always grab something from the party (most likely a pin to add to my collection) to commemorate the evening!
10. Unique PhotoPass Opportunities Adds Value to Memory Maker!
Did you know that when you purchase Memory Maker as part of your vacation package, you can use it at exclusive events too? That means there is no extra cost to all the unique photo ops during the party. In fact, you are increasing the value of something you already purchased by taking advantage and getting even more photos. At Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party you will find exclusive photo opportunities, exclusive magic shots (my favorite), and exclusive backdrops that may only come out for events too!
TIP: It is cheaper to add Memory Maker to your vacation package in advance rather than wait until you are on vacation and wishing you had it! When my clients book with me, I will remind them of this value and make sure they are making the most of it on their trip!
