It Was My Destiny to Drink This Coffee

You didn’t think I would go on vacation and come home without a coffee review, did you?

Sailing aboard the Disney Destiny gave me plenty of chances to put that promise to the test. The ship features three different coffee spots, each serving the beloved specialty lattes you’ll find across the Disney Cruise Line fleet, but this ship also adds something extra for coffee lovers. Both Café Megara and Café Merida offer exclusive, ship-specific lattes created just for these locations, making every caffeine stop feel like its own little adventure.

Naturally, I made it my personal mission to try as many as possible and this is something I looked forward to each day.

Designed with fans of Hercules in mind, Café Megara is one of the most beautifully themed coffee spots aboard the Disney Destiny (and really, the whole DCL fleet). The space feels both elegant and playful, perfectly capturing Megara's bold personality. While the coffee alone makes it worth a visit, many guests will tell you it's also home to the best Espresso Martini onboard.

The specialty latte menu leans fully into the theme, with drinks named after the three fates and lattes named after the five muses. Here are my two personal favorites:

Melpomene’s Lament Frappe: Brown Spiced Sugar, Turmeric, Espresso, Ice Cream, Cold Foam, Cinnamon

Calliope’s Verse Latte: Honey, Pistachio, Illy Espresso, Milk

The details inside Café Merida are just as impressive as the drinks. Inspired by Brave, the space is filled with thoughtful storytelling touches from a Scottish-inspired carpet to a coffee bar designed in the shape of a bow, to the mischievous bears cleverly worked into the décor. Fans will have fun spotting hidden nods to the film scattered throughout the shop, making it a place worth lingering in long after your drink is finished. Or, show up bright and early in the morning before it gets crowded to get a view of everything!

The specialty latte lineup here is known as the Scotsman Specials, and after sampling a few, these two quickly became my favorites:

Bannock Latte: Butterscotch Syrup, Illy Espresso, Oat Milk, Sea Salt

Shortbread Latte: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Butter, Milk, Illy Espresso

And then, of course, I enjoyed the DCL Pistachio Lattes and DCL Coconut and Salted Caramel Latte. I usually ordered these in the morning at Cove Café, which is in the adult-only section and designed beautifully with a Moana theme.

Just one of the ways I help my clients prep for their DCL sailings is sending them information prior to sailing including where to find delicious coffee and specialty lattes on board! I also send them information on earning free lattes while sailing!
