Girls' Getaway at Sea: Why a Disney Cruise Isn't Just for Kids

When most people think of a Disney Cruise, they picture families with little ones, character hugs, and nonstop activities for kids. But after recently sailing on a 5-night cruise aboard the beautiful Disney Dream with my best friend, I'm here to tell you that Disney Cruise Line is just as magical for adults.
A girls' getaway on Disney Cruise Line? Absolutely. And honestly, we're already planning our next one.
Our Home Away from Home
Our Interior Stateroom with a Virtual Porthole was the perfect size for the two of us. The virtual porthole streamed live views from outside the ship throughout the day, with a few surprise appearances from favorite Disney friends that made us smile every time. (Don't worry—it can be turned off at night for uninterrupted sleep!)
One of our favorite features was Disney Cruise Line's signature split bathroom design. One room includes a toilet and sink, while the other has a shower and sink, making it so much easier for two friends with multiple outfit changes to get ready without being in each other's way.
After unpacking once, decorating our door with magnets, hanging our Fish Extender, and settling in, we headed out to explore the ship that would be our home for the next five days.
Slow Mornings & Adult-Only Relaxation
One of the things we loved most about sailing on Disney Cruise Line was the abundance of adults-only spaces.
Our mornings almost always started at Cove Café, the adults-only coffee shop, where we'd grab our favorite coffee, tea, or hot chocolate along with a pastry before heading outside to watch the sunrise over the ocean.
As busy wives, moms, and grandmothers, those peaceful mornings felt like such a luxury. There was no rushing, no schedules, and no distractions—just two friends enjoying uninterrupted conversation while watching the world wake up around us.
Breakfast in one of the ship's beautiful dining rooms, complete with a mimosa, made the morning even sweeter.
Pool Days Done Right
Of course, no girls' cruise would be complete without relaxing by the adults-only pool.
We spent plenty of time reading, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying refreshing tropical drinks from the nearby bar. Sometimes the best vacation memories come from doing absolutely nothing at all.
So Much More Than You Expect
Disney Cruise Line offers an incredible variety of activities for adults throughout the day.
We enjoyed trivia covering everything from Disney villains to music and movies. You can also attend beverage seminars featuring champagne, wine, rum, tequila, and more.
We decided on the Mixology Class, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our cruise! We learned how to make several different cocktails, including tequila, rum, and whiskey-based drinks, while our knowledgeable bartender explained each recipe and ingredient. It was interactive, educational, and filled with laughter from start to finish.
Broadway-Caliber Entertainment Every Night
Every evening ended with one of Disney Cruise Line's incredible Broadway-style productions.
This is where Disney truly shines.
The music, costumes, special effects, and talented performers transported us right into the story. We laughed, sang along, clapped, and even wiped away a few tears. No matter your age, Disney has a way of bringing out your inner child.
And after the show?
The Silent Disco.
Need I say more? It was an absolute blast!
For those looking for a more relaxed evening, the adult lounges feature live entertainment, comfortable seating, and the perfect atmosphere to unwind with your favorite beverage.
Time to Recharge
No girls' getaway would be complete without a little pampering.
The Senses Spa offers a peaceful escape from everyday life with its Rainforest Room, heated loungers, hot tubs, and tranquil atmosphere. Whether you spend an hour or an entire afternoon there, it's the perfect place to relax, recharge, and simply breathe.
Disney Magic Never Gets Old
One of the things that surprised us most was how much joy the Disney characters still brought us.
Because we weren't traveling with children, we didn't feel rushed to squeeze every character interaction into our schedule. Instead, we enjoyed spontaneous encounters throughout the ship—stopping to chat, hug, dance, laugh, and even get a little emotional seeing some of our favorite characters.
There is something incredibly special about watching your favorite Disney character walk by that instantly makes your heart smile, no matter how old you are.
Disney Cruises Aren't Just for Families
If you've always assumed Disney Cruise Line is only for families with young children, I hope our experience changes your mind.
My best friend and I returned home with unforgettable memories, countless laughs, and plans for our next girls' getaway already in the works.
Sometimes the best vacations aren't about checking attractions off a list—they're about slowing down, reconnecting with someone you love, and creating memories you'll talk about for years to come.
If you've been dreaming about a girls' cruise, I'd love to help you plan the perfect escape.
Whether you're celebrating a birthday, reconnecting with lifelong friends, or simply need a break from everyday life, Disney Cruise Line offers the perfect blend of relaxation, entertainment, exceptional service, and a little Disney magic.
Ready to plan your own girls' getaway at sea?
I'd love to help you find the perfect sailing.
