Assemble Your Dream Trip: Best Marvel Experiences Around the World Part 2

“Avengers Assemble!” (again!) I’m back with Part 2 of my mini blog series featuring the Marvel experiences I love recommending to my clients. In Part 1, we explored how you can step into the action on land at Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris, with immersive lands and memorable stays fit for a hero at Marvel-themed resorts.
Now, we’re setting sail on a whole new adventure with Disney Cruise Line! From Marvel-themed dining to epic onboard events, this next chapter is all about assembling your ultimate superhero vacation at sea.
1. Disney Cruise Line Kids Clubs
While some sailings are geared more towards Marvel fans than others, there is something for Marvel fans on all ships, especially in the kids’ clubs. Here are the themes of different rooms in the Oceaneer Kids Clubs geared towards Marvel fans throughout the fleet:
Disney Dream: Mobile WEB Workshop. Here, your young recruit can test new suit prototypes for Spider-Man and other Heroes!
Disney Fantasy: Marvel Super Hero Academy. Here you will become an Avenger and learn how to be a superhero!
Disney Magic: Not only does this ship have the Marvel Super Hero Academy, this ship also has Superhero trainings! I love the way Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit is on display!
Disney Wonder: The Wonder also has the Marvel Super Hero Academy. Be on the lookout for some of the best Avenger weaponry such as Captain America’s shield!
Disney Wish, Treasure, and Destiny: The newest ships have the most interactive Marvel Super Hero Academies with updated technologies! Your young Avengers will be able to choose a Super Hero suit from a selection based on heroes like Iron Man and Captain Marvel. After you finish your designs, you can watch nanotech bring your design to life on a mannequin in real time. There is also a gesture-based technology game where you can put your suit to the test in a virtual training and battle. Kids will love this!
Disney Adventure: The Mobile WEB Workshop is on the New Disney Adventure like on the Disney Dream!
TIP: Look on the DCL Navigator App for Open Houses. These are times that adults can visit the Kids Clubs. During these times, you will occasionally see a character meet and greet. That is how I met Thor on the Disney Fantasy!
2. Character Meet and Greets
You might spot a few superheroes onboard! While Marvel character appearances aren’t guaranteed on every sailing, and they’re not always as frequent as other character meet-and-greets, it’s always worth keeping an eye out. Be sure to check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator throughout your trip to see if / when your favorite heroes are making appearances. You never know when you might get the chance to meet one! I have been lucky enough to see characters like the Black Panther, Thor, Spiderman, and more on different sailings!
3. DCL Dining Experiences: Worlds of Marvel
On Disney Cruise Line’s Wish-class ships, Worlds of Marvel is part of the rotational dining lineup you are guaranteed to visit during your sailing. This restaurant delivers an immersive, tech-forward dinner experience inspired by the Marvel universe. Across all ships, the core concept is the same: guests dine surrounded by Marvel imagery, enjoy themed menus inspired by locations like Wakanda, Sokovia, and New York, and interact with table-side technology that ties into a storyline unfolding on large screens throughout the restaurant. Where the experience differs is in the entertainment and show content on each ship.
Disney Wish: Guests experience Avengers: Quantum Encounter, a storyline that features Ant-Man and the Wasp as they explore some of the most powerful superhero technologies such as Captain America’s shield and Iron Man’s arc reactor.
Disney Treasure: With this ship sailing 7-night itineraries, guests will visit this restaurant twice so there are two distinct Marvel dining shows on different nights. In addition to Avengers: Quantum Encounter, guests may also see Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix, a Guardians-inspired experience featuring music, trivia, and a party-style atmosphere.
Disney Destiny: Your experience in Worlds of Marvel aboard the Destiny will be hosted by Groot and Rocket! This restaurant is described as an “out-of-this-world celebration!”
4. The Disney Destiny
The Disney Destiny, inspired by a hero vs. villains theme, does an amazing job of incorporating Marvel into the décor, experiences, and dining in both the most obvious (and subtle) ways.
The highlight for most people on a DCL vacation is walking into the atrium for the first time. On the Destiny, for the first time guests will notice a Marvel superhero, T’Challa (the original Black Panther), is featured as the ship’s character statue. On the bow of the ship, you will also find Spiderman swinging by and some Spider-Bots!
Loki, the self-proclaimed ruler of the Destiny, does greet guests on board. Those who love the way Disney goes the extra mile when it comes to including small details will notice that the Grand Hall is a 360-degree lighting display that changes based on the characters that appear. Pay attention to the lighting when Loki arrives (or when Spiderman drops in)!
Other Marvel-themed Entertainment not to be missed:
Sounds of Wakanda: a musical celebration featuring a group of percussionists whose music is inspired by the stories, legends and culture of the Black Panther's home.
With Great Power: A Marvel Comedy Show: This one is not for the kids! This is an adult-only comedy show that will remind guests of the most iconic moments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is one of the best shows I have seen on a Disney ship and by far the funniest. This has become a not-to-miss event for me and my family. I already can’t wait to see it again next year.
Legend of Loki: Loki takes over the ship and declares himself the captain!
Kiss Goodnight: On all Wish Class ships, each evening in the Grand Hall, there is a special lighting and musical spectacle that serves as the “kiss goodnight” and puts the ship to sleep for the evening. On the Destiny, this is themed to Black Panther and the world of Wakanda.
The Sanctum is a Dr. Strange-themed cocktail parlor fill with magic, delicious drinks, and snacks! Be on the lookout for added details such as the Cloak of Levitation! This parlor is open to families during the day for activities and entertainment. This parlor does become adults-only in the evening.
TIP: Looking for added touches of Marvel in your day? When you visit the Cove Café ask for an Avengers design on your latte!
If you are looking for Marvel touches throughout each day of your sailing, this is the ship for you!
5. Marvel Day at Sea
Marvel Day at Sea is a special, completely immersive one-day celebration on select Disney Cruise Line sailings where the Marvel Universe takes over the ship for a full day of the itinerary. While Marvel character meet and greets are not guaranteed on all Disney sailings, they are guaranteed on these sailings. Guests will find characters that do not meet on other ships or in the parks! Throughout the day, in addition to meeting their favorite Superheroes and villains, guest can enjoy Marvel-themed shows and deck spectaculars, participate in interactive activities and trivia, and spot exclusive entertainment you won’t find on a typical sailing. From action-packed stage shows to character encounters around every corner, it’s an immersive experience for Marvel fans of all ages.
While the rest of your vacation can be relaxing, a Marvel Day at Sea will be action packed! This should be on your bucket list if it is not already!
