Hidden Details & Disney Cruise Ship – Why You Should Always Take the Ship Tour

One thing I make it a point to do every time I sail with Disney — and I mean every time — is take the ship tour. Sometimes more than once. And every single time, I walk away amazed. The tour I did on my last sailing aboard the Disney Treasure was no exception. In fact, it might be my favorite yet.

If you’ve ever thought, “Do I really need to take the tour?” let me tell you: yes, yes, yes! And the best part? It’s free! They give you headphones so you can hear the guide without disturbing other guests, and you’ll be in a group of maybe 40–50 people — intimate enough to really enjoy.

One of my favorite parts of sailing on any Disney ship is taking the ship tour, and the Disney Treasure did not disappoint. Every time I take a tour, I discover something new. The guides all have different stories and unique insights, and it’s such a fun way to deepen your experience onboard.

Our guide was Emma — a fantastic Canadian with great humor. She walked us through so many of the ship’s hidden details. I loved how she explained the theme of the Disney Treasure: the ship itself is designed as a journey toward discovering the treasure. From stern to bow, every detail is purposeful.

Fun Facts & Hidden Details

Here are just a few of my favorites:

●      Disney Treasure’s Hull Number 718 — this number shows up in several places throughout the Periscope Pub, including the door and the depth pressure gauge.

It’s a little Easter egg for guests to spot.
●      On the periscope itself is the number 20K, a nod to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

●      The ship’s internal color palette changes as you travel from stern to bow — from blue at the stern to reddish-orange near the bow. It’s a visual storytelling element guiding passengers along the “path to treasure.”
●      The Grand Hall chandelier is breathtaking. It has six smaller lanterns, each representing one of the ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. The lantern representing the Treasure itself is an Aladdin genie lamp icon.
●      At night, the chandelier comes alive with the Arabian Nights Kiss Goodnight show, starting around 5 p.m. — a truly magical touch.
●      The carpet at the stern starts with the “magic carpet” design near the elevators to begin your journey, while at the bow, you’ll find the “Cave of Wonders,” where the treasure is found!

●      Along the way, there are scent machines that change aromas depending on the area of the ship, and lighting changes to match the theme of each section. It’s the incredible attention to detail that really makes this ship special. Most of them you’ll miss if you don’t know how to look — or smell — for them. LOL

Emma also gave us a tip I think every Disney cruiser should know:

“Food goes to your aft, and entertainment is in the front of the ship because you watch it with your eyes that are in the front of your face.”

It stuck with me — and it really does help you remember where everything is located!
Food is located in the aft of the ship, and entertainment is in the front.

Why You Should Take the Tour

I can’t stress this enough: even if you’ve sailed before, take the ship tour. You’ll see things you never would have noticed otherwise. You’ll learn about the little “hidden magic” moments Disney puts into every corner of their ships. And each guide will share something different, so even repeat tours are worth it.

The ship tour made me appreciate the Disney Treasure on a whole new level. Every time I walked through the ship afterward, I saw it differently — not just as a cruise ship, but as a story waiting to be discovered.

If you’re sailing with Disney, make time for the tour. Trust me — it’s a journey worth taking. I’d be happy to help you plan your next adventure. Who knows — you might find a hidden treasure!

Let the magic begin!
